Information

Answer
The National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) system is used by the IRS and NCCS (National Center for Charitable Statistics) to classify nonprofit organizations. NTEE codes are assigned by the IRS to classify nonprofit organizations when they receive their tax-exempt status. You can look up your organization’s NTEE code.

NISP codes were developed for public funders to classify arts and cultural organizations by discipline and institution type.

Providing your organization’s NTEE code helps the platform predict applicable areas of program activity that your organization may have engaged in. NTEE and NISP codes also help categorize organizations on the DataArts platform. This allows you to benchmark your organization against others of specific disciplines when running comparison reports, and helps researchers using the overall dataset analyze the data in a meaningful way.

If your organization is incorrectly classified by the IRS, you may choose a more appropriate NTEE classification code for the customization of your survey.
